Tarek Lakhrissi

Lakhrissi’s practice probes the interplay between vulnerability and defense. By translating poetic text into physical objects—such as glass tails, metal spears, and resin horns—he creates a new anatomical vocabulary of "appendages." These forms serve as both armor and sensory extensions, allowing the body to interface with its environment in ways that are protective yet porous. His work celebrates the "monster" and the "alien" as sovereign states of being, where the human form is stretched to accommodate new modes of desire and power.

In Expanded Bodies, Lakhrissi’s work unfolds as a study in "world-making" and transformative resilience. He proposes anatomies that are unapologetically fluid—bodies that claim the right to mutate, fracture, and heal in equal measure. Through this speculative physical vocabulary, he opens a space where identity is not a fixed destination, but a shifting territory of ongoing liberation and poetic possibility.
