AMITIKATXI is an acronym for the Articulação das Mulheres Indígenas Tiriyó, Katxuyana e Txikiyana (The Articulation of the Indigenous Tiriyó, Katxuyana and Txikiyana Women), organised by the Fundo de Artes e Artesanatos Wëriton Iyeripo. The collective consists of 34 wome and their first work 'It unai anya arimikane' (the forest is our future/that which makes us grow) is a meticulously beaded portrait of the Tëefaimë tree. Thousands of minute beads were woven into the fabric by these women, each inscribing the cloth with their thankfulness to the forest and the support on one another through the Covid epidemic. This textile work functions as a love letter to craft practices passed down through generations of women. It also signals a commitment to the protection of these lands and symbolizes the reciprocal relationship between the land and the communities that inhabit it. ...
