Condom Mandala I

Chrysanne Stathacos develops a deeply spiritual and feminist practice that spans painting, installation, performance, and conceptual art. Her work investigates themes of loss, body politics, transformation, and the cycles of decay and renewal. She frequently incorporates materials such as roses, hair, and ivy, creating works that merge ritual, corporeality, and the natural world. Her practice has evolved across multiple geographies, from downtown New York to the Greek islands and Tibetan nunneries, reflecting both personal and collective histories. Stathacos transforms conventional painting into immersive, interactive environments, often extending into performance and installation, blending physical materials with symbolic and spiritual motifs. Drawing from feminism, Greek mythology, Eastern spirituality, and Tibetan Buddhism, her work is both meditative and performative, exploring the intersections of body, ritual, and the metaphysical. Through her multidisciplinary approach, Stathacos creates layered, contemplative experiences that encourage viewers to engage with the cycles of life, memory, and transformation. Her oeuvre challenges conventional hierarchies in art, foregrounding overlooked voices and personal histories, while maintaining a poetic dialogue between material, body, and spiritual practice. ...

The Breeder
Athens

The Breeder gallery was formed organically from The Breeder magazine due to the need of Athenian artists to promote international dialogue. Over the last 20 years The Breeder has been a pioneer in the development of the contemporary art scene in Athens. They show art that is relevant to our times and promote a select group of Greek artists on the global arena while also showing cutting edge international artists. The Breeder serves as a link that connects cultures and supports a deeper exchange. They support their community by providing an active platform for the exchange of ideas and ideals. In 2019 they introduced The Breeder Open Studio initiative, where the gallery is available to invited artists prior to their show. Working onsite the artists have the opportunity to engage with the audience in more substantial ways. Invited artists of the Breeder Open studio, include Ariana Papademetropoulos, Chioma Ebinama, Joy Labinjo, Ekene Stanley Emecheta, Victor Ubah, Barry Yusufu and Adegboyega Adesina. ...
