Corrine Slade centers on identity, transformation, and solace, depicting Black women within lush, imagined environments. Blending abstraction and figuration, her work explores growth, healing, memory, and spiritual connection, often incorporating symbolic elements like flowers, fruits, and the moon to create compositions that merge introspection, imagination, and ecofeminist narratives. Her practice has evolved through multiple exhibitions and residencies, reflecting both personal and collective histories. Slade transforms conventional portraiture into immersive, dreamlike spaces, where figures exist in vibrant, layered landscapes that evoke both refuge and transcendence. Drawing from pop culture, mythology, and her own cultural heritage, her work constructs new ecofeminist mythologies that challenge traditional narratives. Slade’s paintings are meditative and contemplative, inviting viewers to reflect on cycles of life, memory, and transformation, while celebrating overlooked voices and stories. Her oeuvre foregrounds the intersections of body, environment, and spirit, maintaining a poetic dialogue between material, symbolism, and personal history. Through her luminous, layered compositions, Slade creates experiences that are both intimate and universal, emphasizing resilience, reflection, and the power of imaginative worlds. ...
The Breeder gallery was formed organically from The Breeder magazine due to the need of Athenian artists to promote international dialogue. Over the last 20 years The Breeder has been a pioneer in the development of the contemporary art scene in Athens. They show art that is relevant to our times and promote a select group of Greek artists on the global arena while also showing cutting edge international artists. The Breeder serves as a link that connects cultures and supports a deeper exchange. They support their community by providing an active platform for the exchange of ideas and ideals. In 2019 they introduced The Breeder Open Studio initiative, where the gallery is available to invited artists prior to their show. Working onsite the artists have the opportunity to engage with the audience in more substantial ways. Invited artists of the Breeder Open studio, include Ariana Papademetropoulos, Chioma Ebinama, Joy Labinjo, Ekene Stanley Emecheta, Victor Ubah, Barry Yusufu and Adegboyega Adesina. ...
