In his figurative paintings, Justin John Greene combines naturalism and expressionism to investigate themes of identity, cultural hybridity, and the human psyche. His poised young Black figures draw viewers into intimate and unfolding narratives of emotion and experience. His practice has evolved through various exhibitions and residencies, reflecting both personal and collective histories. Eziefula's art serves as a bridge between the past and present, seamlessly blending historical context with contemporary sensibilities. Each piece is approached as a tale being told on canvas, with different hues conveying seriousness, lightheartedness, passion, gloom, and even irony. Drawing from traditional Greek imagery, literature, poetry, and observations of urban and rural life, Eziefula constructs a visual language that celebrates the vital connection between humans and the broader natural environment. His works depict the harmonious coexistence of humans and their animal companions, portraying the tender interplay between sentient beings in their natural habitats. Eziefula's oeuvre foregrounds the relationships between body, environment, and society, maintaining a nuanced dialogue between material, gesture, and social practice. Through his paintings, he creates spaces that encourage reflection on the body, identity, and the structures that shape human interaction. ...
The Breeder gallery was formed organically from The Breeder magazine due to the need of Athenian artists to promote international dialogue. Over the last 20 years The Breeder has been a pioneer in the development of the contemporary art scene in Athens. They show art that is relevant to our times and promote a select group of Greek artists on the global arena while also showing cutting edge international artists. The Breeder serves as a link that connects cultures and supports a deeper exchange. They support their community by providing an active platform for the exchange of ideas and ideals. In 2019 they introduced The Breeder Open Studio initiative, where the gallery is available to invited artists prior to their show. Working onsite the artists have the opportunity to engage with the audience in more substantial ways. Invited artists of the Breeder Open studio, include Ariana Papademetropoulos, Chioma Ebinama, Joy Labinjo, Ekene Stanley Emecheta, Victor Ubah, Barry Yusufu and Adegboyega Adesina. ...
