Born in Calcutta, India in 1966, artist, designer, and fashion illustrator Tanya Ling's worldview was shaped by extensive travels as a child with her family across North America, Africa, and Europe. These voyages were subsequently chronicled through poetic drawings that allowed her to foster a sense of home from anywhere. Later, Ling developed a career as a designer in the Parisian fashion industry, and following a commission by British Vogue, gained recognition for signature illustrations that blend sinuous marks and muscular hues. The undulating line motifs found in her work today entwine the complexities of an artistic practice rooted in intuition and memory with various processes of drawing, painting, and assemblage. These modes vitalize Ling’s instinctive ability to unfold endless variations and possibilities—part of the artist's unceasing effort to connect with the eternal.
