François Malingrëy was born in 1989 in Nancy. The son of an illustrator, he graduated from the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg in 2013. He has developed a figurative technique that he uses to depict a world that remains strange despite its realism and follows its own rules: recurrently, his works are populated by anonymous, often naked characters, evolving in unidentified settings, entirely engrossed in the banality of a life where little happens. Yet, there is an underlying sense of drama, although no tragedy ever unfolds in his paintings. The atmospheres are heavy and silent, the tones muted but deep, the flesh weighty.
