Description
This vibrant contemporary artwork features a striking, stylized depiction of a figure against a bold green and blue background. The central element is a large, gray humanoid form with exaggerated features, including prominent eyes, a prominent nose, and an elongated, angular body. The composition is characterized by clean lines, simplified shapes, and a limited color palette of green, blue, and gray. The artistic style appears to draw from modernist and surrealist influences, combining geometric abstraction with a whimsical, almost comical interpretation of the human form. The intention behind this piece may be to explore themes of the human condition or the relationship between the individual and the environment in a visually compelling and thought-provoking manner. ...
Continuously pushing the boundaries of painting, Juan Tessi’s practice explores the language of the medium as it moves fluidly across different supports, formats, and techniques. At the core of his work lies the human body, intertwined with themes of queer desire and the connection between painting and biological processes. Tessi skillfully balances traditional craftsmanship with technological experimentation, treating his paintings both as surfaces and physical objects, resulting in deeply personal visual poetics grounded in the materiality of paint. Tessi’s process often involves transforming conventional approaches: for example, creating abstract works guided by non-visual instructions, or peeling paint “skins” and reattaching them onto raw fabrics through static electricity. His work challenges boundaries between image and object, permanence and fragility. He also interrogates spatial and contextual relationships, at times placing paintings in unconventional, monitored locations, integrating surveillance footage to question visibility and control. His recent work incorporates ceramic elements as extensions of the painted surface, further blurring the lines between body, object, and image. Tessi’s evolving practice reflects a dialogue between historical influences and contemporary concerns around identity, materiality, and embodiment. ...
