Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This abstract sculpture consists of a dynamic, asymmetrical arrangement of various brown-toned elements. The composition features irregular, jagged shapes and fragments that appear to be constructed from found materials, creating a sense of texture and depth. The overall effect is one of fragmentation and disintegration, evoking a sense of movement and change. The artist's intention may be to explore themes of decay, impermanence, or the human experience of navigating a constantly shifting world. Through the use of unconventional materials and an abstract, sculptural approach, this work offers a thought-provoking commentary on the nature of existence. ...

Katie Grinnan’s work is focused on the body and its functions. She is fascinated by kinaesthesis, cognition and vision, specifically the ways in which these intricate and finely calibrated knowledge systems provide inherently subjective and unique perceptions of reality, emotion and self. Grinnan is interested in the occupation of different states of consciousness, for example meditation and dreaming, and how they different themselves from the state of wakefulness and full cognition. The artist’s sculptures are manifestations of the mind and its boundaries, rendered in materials like plastic, enamel and sand, often casts of her own body. In ‘Mirage’ (2011), Grinnan cast her body incrementally during her daily yoga routine, with a symphony of limbs made from sand extending outwards, delineating the passing of time and the body’s perpetual journey towards disintegration.
