Laila Tara H
Iranian/British

Laila Tara H transforms the traditional Indo-Persian miniature by merging time-honored painting methods with strikingly contemporary forms and ideas. Her work is built around repeated visual symbols that create a rich, coded language, inviting viewers to uncover multiple layers of meaning. Her materials include natural pigments such as vibrant lapis lazuli, walnut ink, and earthy ochres, alongside unconventional elements like crushed London bricks. Conceptually, her pieces explore the nuanced dynamics of private life and the interplay between intimate spaces and the wider public sphere. Often presented on a grand scale and composed of multiple interconnected parts with sculptural features, her practice challenges the conventional boundaries of works on paper. Drawing from her Iranian heritage and experiences across different cultures, Laila Tara H develops a distinct visual vocabulary that expresses her complex personal and cultural narrative. ...
