Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

Baseera Khan's "Saffron Crocus, Eyes Wide Open and Sight Security" is a visually striking drawing featuring bold colors such as vibrant reds and subtle pinks, intersected by a diagonal divide with a focus on stylized, abstract floral forms. The composition suggests duality or tension, embodying both beauty and underlying complexity. Khan’s style intertwines vivid figuration with abstraction, showcasing a deft layering technique. This piece is part of Khan’s exploration of identity and socio-political themes, reflecting on cultural intersections and personal histories through a visually compelling narrative. ...

Baseera Khan
Artist
Baseera Khan
B.1980, American

Baseera Khan’s multidimensional, multi-layered practice extends over the mediums of sculpture, performance, collage, installation, drawing, photography, textiles and painting. They explore themes of cultural exploitation, anti-blackness and xenophobia and how these issues intersect with surveillance, capitalism and the private and public space. Khan investigates the chains of production of commodities and goods, namely oil, architecture and art. Their practice undermines the structural integrity of these monolithic subjects, revealing their inequality and hypocrisy. Khan’s own body is positioned as archive, with the artist drawing out and visualising their lived experiences, traumas and tangled histories as a queer femme Muslim American with Indian, Afghani, and East African heritage.
