Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This contemporary artwork features a striking visual composition. The central element is a large, pale mushroom with an intriguing, segmented cap. The mushroom is set against a bold, vibrant pink background, creating a striking contrast. The overall arrangement suggests a playful, surreal quality, with the mushroom's distinctive form and the vivid color serving as the main focal points. The artist's skillful use of textures and shapes, combined with the unexpected color palette, contribute to the work's unique and thought-provoking nature. This piece likely aims to challenge conventional perceptions and encourage the viewer to consider the relationship between natural forms and the creative expression. ...

Sebastian BlackThere were six long art students, thin like spaghetti, standing around the nude model [whiskers]. The model posed with her head thrust forward and her fingers locked together behind her back [nose, mouth]. Her stage was a little round platform with a blanket thrown over it [muzzle]. The art students looked up at her and one by one broke their vine charcoal into two pieces [pupils]. They rubbed the black sticks onto pads of newsprint until the shape of the powder that crumbled off resembled the shape of the model. Meanwhile, the teacher sat by the window and fiddled with a paint flecked oval boombox [head]. He carried it around the room like a thurifer, trailing plumes of static. He waved it about, and pushed its antennae this way and that [ears] until, finally, it shouted “Autozone!”, 2018Price on Request

When people describe his paintings as “absurd”, Calvin Marcus notes that such description is produced out of the feeling that “there shouldn’t be paintings like his”. A floating coca-cola next to an elephant, gigantic nipple on a grass, a naked woman-mountain and cows stretching over the horizon, Marcus’s large paintings are extremely bold in both colour and depiction. The artist is interested in confrontation, with his audience, with an artistic persona, as well as logical parameters of painting as a medium. Stripped of unnecessary detail and drowning in the sea of colour, Marcus’s works are open spaces of unnerving meaning unconnected to one another. Born in 1988 in San Francisco and now based in LA, Marcus creates dazzling uncomfort that strikes directly at his viewer’s subjectivity. Written by Goldsmiths CCA ...
