Emile Rubino
B.1992, French

Emile Rubino investigates the ambiguous territory of photography, approaching the medium as both image and object, and as a site where meaning is constantly negotiated. He considers the photograph not simply as a picture, but as a container shaped by labor, materiality, and the social conditions of its production. This perspective allows him to foreground the processes and infrastructures that surround photography, rather than limiting its function to representation. Central to his work is an interest in how abstract ideas can be articulated through non-representational forms. Rubino often emphasizes the slippages and contradictions inherent to images—how they can simultaneously reveal and obscure, construct and dismantle. His photographs frequently play with juxtaposition and layering, creating visual equations that highlight photography’s ability to carry multiple, sometimes conflicting, meanings at once. Working with both analogue and digital methods, Rubino sustains a long-term engagement with questions of care, fragility, and interpretation. By situating photography within a broader field of language and thought, his practice expands the medium beyond documentation, positioning it as a critical tool for reflecting on culture, politics, and perception itself. ...

Pristina

LambdaLambdaLambda was founded in 2015 in Prishtina (Kosovo) by Isabella Ritter and Katharina Schendl. It is the first and only international gallery for contemporary art in Prishtina working on a global scale. On a local level its aim is to provide artists and the audience with an intimate environment conducive to experimentation, discussion and learning, especially by bringing together international and local artists. The gallery represents artists of the young generation of Kosovar artists as well as artists from the Balkan-region along with artists from other geographies. Over the course of one decade the gallery has successfully introduced a myriad of artists to a global audience which resulted in landmark exhibitions as well as acquisitions by important museums and institutions worldwide. LambdaLambdaLambda has earned a reputation for championing artists who challenge established socio-political narratives and for introducing artists with idiosyncratic artistic practices. ...
