Joeun Kim Aatchim

Korean-born, New York-based artist Joeun Kim Aatchim’s practice is centred around drawing. Her drawings employ Korean silk as their surface, onto which she constructs incredibly intricate compositions which capture the attention of the viewer. Viewers are encouraged to experience the visual feast of texture, colour, and materiality which Aatchim has presented. Luminosity radiates outwards from the surface of Aatchim’s works. While she concentrates on every day, simple events and scenes, such as a pair of shoes, a dinner, domestic objects, there is an intimacy and beauty in the intricacy of her work, it draws our attention and encourages us to look deeper at what we might usually only give a fleeting glance. ...
