Inspired by Persian mythology and Miniature Painting, Meghdad Lorpour’s large-scale paintings depict nature — landscapes, forests, mountains, animals — while infusing it with mythological layers of meaning. The mythical atmosphere of his works is further accentuated by the minimalist use of colder hues. Lorpour is inspired by the unpredictableness of natural phenomena. By ‘artificially’ placing objects and shapes into his sceneries, the artist creates a fuse of landscape and still life. The objects, such as a bottle, an apple or an arch, further hint to the mysteries of mythology and symbolism. Lorpour is interested in the emotional connection his work has with his audience.
