Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

The artwork features a bold, red background with a prominent text overlay. The text conveys a message about unkind words and their impact, using metaphors of chaos, logic, and violation. The overall composition and choice of materials, such as the textured surface and inclusion of beer bottles, suggest a provocative and critical commentary on language and its power dynamics. While the piece does not depict any recognizable figures, the text and symbolic elements create a visceral and thought-provoking artistic statement, likely reflecting the artist's intention to challenge the viewer's perceptions and assumptions about the consequences of harsh rhetoric. ...

Candice Breitz
B.1972, South African

Throughout her career, Candice Breitz has explored the dynamics by means of which an individual becomes him or herself in relation to a larger community, be that the immediate community that one encounters in family, or the real and imagined communities that are shaped not only by questions of national belonging, race, gender and religion, but also by the increasingly undeniable influence of mainstream media such as television, cinema and other popular culture. Most recently, Breitz’s work has focused on the conditions under which empathy is produced, reflecting on a media-saturated global culture in which strong identification with fictional characters and celebrity figures runs parallel to widespread indifference to the plight of those facing real world adversity. Her main media is the video: from single channel to 30-channels video installations, involving the whole exhibition space. ...

francesca kaufmann gallery opened in January 2000. Since then, the gallery has aimed to explore a diverse range of media, with a focus on video, site specific installation, and a special attention towards the works of female artists. After ten years in its historical location, the gallery opened in a new space in October 2010, under the name kaufmann repetto, to mark the partnership between Francesca Kaufmann and Chiara Repetto. In its new location, the gallery has been able to further develop its exhibition programming through a project space dedicated predominantly to younger artists, as well as a courtyard for large scale outdoor installations, which run parallel to the gallery’s main exhibition schedule. In 2013, the gallery inaugurated a new location in Chelsea, New York, with a parallel program to the gallery’s main space in Milan. In 2019 the New York location moved to Tribeca, expanding to a 3,000 sq ft exhibition space. The inaugural exhibition at the gallery’s new space in Tribeca was a solo show by Lily van der Stokker. ...
