Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This striking black sculpture features a contorted, abstracted human form emerging from a swirling, visceral mass. The smooth, glossy surface reflects the viewer, creating an immersive, unsettling experience. The work's dynamic composition, characterized by bold, twisting shapes, conveys a sense of struggle and emotional turmoil. Employing a minimalist aesthetic, the artist invites the viewer to contemplate the human condition, exploring themes of vulnerability, fragmentation, and the human form's relationship with its surroundings. This powerful, thought-provoking piece reflects the artist's distinctive style and their intention to challenge the viewer's perceptions of the body and its place in the world. ...

Artist
Cathrin Hoffmann
B.1984, German

In her paintings, sculptures and installations, Cathrin Hoffmann reimagines, remodels, and recycles various corporealities to explore and question what being human means in the future post-digital age. The distorted figures, whose bodies amass both sharp-edged and curvy forms, defy standardized and stereotypical ideas of the human physique, particularly circulated by the media. Although Hoffmann predominantly works with feminine shapes, she does not draw a dividing line between male and female, human and animal, animal-human and machine, natural and artificial. Her aesthetic operates in an equivocal realm, in which these kinds of dualisms are non-existent. Hoffmann’s work distinctly dismisses such dualist ideas and sets a new basis for futuristic, diverse body types. ...
