Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This mixed media artwork features a captivating interplay of colors, shapes, and textures. The central landscape depicts a serene coastal scene with a row of quaint houses overlooking the ocean. The juxtaposition of the gestural black-and-white brushstrokes and the more realistic rendering of the buildings creates a sense of visual tension. The inclusion of a small human figure walking along the shore adds a touch of narrative, inviting the viewer to imagine the story unfolding. B.1982, British/American

The artist understands the role of marketing, technology and media in shaping our desires, acting as instruments for our subjugation and oppression, and concurrently operating as potential tools for resistance and emancipation. Dean, who was born in Alabama to an English mother and Nigerian father, recognises the multiplicity of cultural and familial, intergenerational influences on our conception of self. Through painting, sculpture, video and performance, the artist simultaneously pieces together installations encompassing intricate, theatre prop-like assemblages, while stripping back the many layers of identity accumulated by contemporary beings.
