Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This contemporary ceramic artwork features a striking composition of organic shapes and vibrant colors. The piece comprises two distinct elements - a dark, textured form with protruding, sculptural features, and a contrasting yellow surface adorned with a delicate floral motif. The textured surface and unique shapes suggest an experimental, expressive approach to the medium. The inclusion of the flower and scattered spherical elements adds a sense of whimsy and playfulness. Overall, the artwork showcases the artist's skilled manipulation of clay, blending conceptual and decorative elements to create a visually captivating and imaginative work. ...

B.1989, American

Erin Jane Nelson’s practice is grounded in photography sourced from her personal archive of found and original images. She often works serially, with each project delving into new conceptual frameworks as far ranging as regional histories of the Southern barrier islands, formative personal relationships, spirituality as a process of mourning and healing, and science fiction narratives. Through speculative world-building, layering everyday materials, and historical research, her work broadly explores the psychological impact of the climate crisis through a feminist lens. Raised in the American South and based in Atlanta, Nelson travels throughout the region to photograph her surroundings and lived experiences. She intuitively merges these images onto unexpected support structures—including silk, hand-crafted quilts, panels, and ceramic inspired by vernacular craft objects and the history of collage—their multiple references engaging the nuanced anxiety, conflict, and humor of the present and immediate future. ...

Chapter NY
New York City

Founded in 2013 by Nicole Russo, Chapter NY is committed to supporting artists at various phases in their careers, by providing first solo shows and offering a platform for specific investigations within more established practices. By focusing on solo-presentations and working closely with each artist, Chapter NY helps realize tightly envisioned exhibitions that foster artistic exploration and growth. Russo brings over two decades of gallery experience to actualizing Chapter NY's program, drawing on her longstanding relationships to encourage ambitious presentations. The gallery started as a weekend project space before growing into a full-time operation, first representing artists including Mira Dancy, Willa Nasatir and Adam Gordon. In addition to an expanding gallery roster, Chapter NY has also provided a flexible platform for non-represented artists working across a range of media and experience, such as Keltie Ferris, Jesse Stecklow and Anicka Yi. In doing so, Chapter NY maintains its original mission to present experimental projects beyond the scope of traditional exhibitions. The program includes artists working in site-specific installation, sculpture, ceramics, video, drawing, painting, and photography. Represented artists have recently exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the New Museum, New York; Tate Britain; the Venice Biennale; and Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta; among others. ...
