Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This contemporary art piece features two rectangular wooden panels, displaying a rich, rustic appearance with natural wood grain and warm hues. The simplicity of the composition, with the two panels arranged side by side, creates a sense of minimalism and focus on the inherent qualities of the materials. The artwork appears to use a reductive, process-oriented approach, emphasizing the tactile and textural qualities of the wood. The accompanying text suggests that the artist's intention behind this work may be to explore the inherent characteristics of the medium and to invite the viewer to engage with the materiality of the piece. ...

Gray Wielebinski
Artist
Gray Wielebinski
B.1991, American/British

Gray Wielebinski’s practice, characterised by its hybridity and dexterity, uses performance, collage, installation, sculpture and video to confront the diverse yet interlinked themes of mythology, gender, identity, memory and nationhood. Having grown up in Dallas, Texas, the artist is interested in investigating mythology and its formation through the lens of Americana. They believe that 'myths past and present can tell us a lot about power and who is able to craft and retell narratives. So, I think it's supremely relevant and necessary to revisit and interrogate them and make our own.' Wielebinski’s use of collage – and the ‘soft sculptures’ that they often make – is notable, as the medium allows for bodies to be deconstructed, dissected, and refigured, creating new combinations and assemblages that defy visual codes and recognisable iconography, and form a heterogeneous utopia of ambiguous beings. ...
