Keem Jiyoung pays attention to the structural problems behind seemingly accidental disasters, and the relationships between individuals and society that protrude therefrom. Since the Sewol ferry tragedy in 2014, Keem has been delving into the socio-political defects of the current world that contemporary disasters bring to light. As an attempt to perceive the contemporary era in a historical sense, Keem’s work focuses on social incidents and evokes a sense of connection between individuals and society. Keem Jiyoung is an artist based in Seoul whose practice spans a diverse media including installation, painting, text, video and sound. She has held solo exhibitions at PHILIPPZOLLINGER, P21, WESS, Sansumunhwa, and O'NewWall E’Juheon. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at institutions such as Songeun, DOOSAN Gallery, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in Gwacheon. Her works are included in the collections of the Burger COLLECTION, PODO Museum, Songeun, Park Seo-Bo Foundation, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. ...
