Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This complex and visually striking artwork features a surreal, dreamlike composition. The color palette is predominantly dark, with shades of black, gray, and red dominating the canvas. The overall composition is dynamic and chaotic, with a mix of organic shapes, geometric patterns, and intricate line work. The subject matter appears to depict a strange, otherworldly creature or figure, surrounded by a swirling, abstract environment. Prominent elements include large, expressive eyes, a stylized figure, and various symbolic or representational motifs, such as a cart-like structure and fish-like shapes. The artistic style is a fusion of expressionistic and surrealistic techniques, with the artist employing a combination of gestural mark-making, collage-like elements, and a playful, imaginative approach to the subject matter. The result is a captivating and thought-provoking work that challenges the viewer's perceptions and invites further contemplation. The context of this piece suggests the artist's intention to explore the realms of the subconscious, mythology, or social commentary, creating a visually striking and conceptually engaging work of contemporary art. ...

Artist
Serigne Ibrahima Dieye
B.1988, Senegalese

Born in 1988 in Dakar, Senegal. Serigne Ibrahima Dieye lives and works in Grand Mbao, Senegal. Trained at the Ecole Nationale des Arts de Dakar from which he graduated in 2013, Serigne Ibrahima Dieye develops a practice at the crossroads of drawing, painting and collage. Often working on large formats, frequently on square canvases that are not without recalling models of contemporary images, the artist mixes symbols, forms and materials. Serigne Ibrahima Dieye thus composes the strange scenes of a contemporary theatre of which hybrid animals and mysterious figures are the protagonists. This is the beginning of the story of urban fables, both fantasy and drama, which borrow their subject matter from various cultures and draw their depth from the nebulae of history and current events. In his works, Serigne Ibrahima Dieye unveils a poetic look at contemporary society and the ills that trouble it, without concessions and not without irony. ...

Abidjan, Paris, Dakar

Galerie Cecile Fakhoury opened its doors in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in September 2012. In May 2018, the gallery inaugurated its second space in Dakar, Senegal and a showroom in Paris, France. Shortly after, in March 2020, a new project space dedicated to emerging artists from Africa opened in Abidjan. In October 2021, Galerie Cecile Fakhoury inaugurated another gallery, opening in the 8th arrondissement of Paris on Avenue Matignon. The gallery promotes contemporary art from Africa and the Diaspora by providing visibility to the artistic diversity and creative spirit from the continent. Through its programming of solo and group exhibitions, participation in international art fairs, biennales, and collaboration with international galleries, Cecile Fakhoury is a leading force putting contemporary African art on the global map. The artists represented by the gallery are distinguished by their cultural identities and stories, they create a new language that crosses geographical boundaries and familiarities. They are observers of the world they live in, critics of society, and committed to their positions living within complex histories. In turn, they ask us to reconsider our own relation to the world. ...
