Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

The artwork features a dimly lit interior scene with a striking architectural frame that serves as the focal point. The composition utilizes a muted color palette, primarily consisting of warm tones and shadows, which create a sense of intrigue and mystery. Prominent in the frame is a silhouetted feline figure, adding a subtle element of symbolism or metaphor to the piece. The style and technique suggest a attention to detail and craftsmanship, potentially hinting at the artist's intention to capture a particular mood or atmosphere within the domestic setting. ...

Emma Prempeh
Artist
Emma Prempeh
B.1996, British

Emma Prempeh is a British artist with Ghanaian and Vincentian heritage. Central to Prempeh’s paintings is the notion of blackness. The color serves as the base of her compositions, and she mines its cinematic quality as a surface onto which she builds traces of experiences, locations, and people, with the intention of conveying the importance of time and our relationship to our ancestry, and also an understanding of selfhood and the ability to transform ourselves. A frequent material employed in her practice is schlag metal, a brass alloy reminiscent of gold leaf, which she applies thoughtfully to her large-scale compositions. The incorporation of schlag metal adds a liveliness to her work; as the paintings age, the metal oxidizes. The images are ever-changing over time; the oxidation of the gold conveys Prempeh’s preoccupation with the way that time passes, and how we experience this. Personal recollection and experience of memory are fundamental to Prempeh’s approach to art making. This performative, living element to her paintings is reflected also in Prempeh’s exploration of installation and moving image, in which she projects still and animated imagery over her canvas to build out from the canvas into something experiential. She encourages us to have active encounters with her work. ...

Founded in London in 2011 by Maria Varnava, Tiwani Contemporary exhibits and represents international contemporary artists. Specifically, the gallery champions artists from Africa and its diaspora. For Maria Varnava, who grew up in Nigeria, this is considered a homecoming. Besides its regular programme of exhibitions, Tiwani Contemporary Lagos collaborates with G.A.S –Guest Artists Space–, Yinka Shonibare’s Foundation, to offer residencies for international artists from the programme who are interested in expanding their creative practice and exchanging with local artists. The gallery aims to collaborate and contribute to the arts ecosystem in Lagos through its programme of exhibitions, talks and publications. The gallery is a regular exhibitor at Art X Lagos. Meanwhile, Tiwani Contemporary runs a programme of exhibitions in London and its programme of International Art Fairs. ...
