Lizbeth Mitty's artistic practice is dedicated to highlighting the inherent abstract beauty of urban architecture and interiors in states of disrepair. Throughout her career, Mitty has been fascinated by scrap yards and other locations of urban devastation, seeing them as sites of organized chaos that are both aesthetically pleasing and ominous. Her landscapes are influenced by the cyclical nature of the natural world and the inescapable impermanence during times of excess. In 2020, Mitty shifted her focus from themes of decay and decadence to creating paintings that capture joyful and picturesque memories. Using the fast-paced technique of wet-into-wet painting, which involves pouring paint onto a wet surface, these images emerge from a state of constant potential change. Mitty's idyllic landscapes aim to preserve a fleeting moment of peace that too often gives way to the uncertainty of the future of these places. Employing various methods and tools, Mitty seeks to offer the viewer elegance, hope, and optimism in a transitory moment. ...
