Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This contemporary artwork features a wooden cabinet with three compartments, each containing a detailed anatomical model of the human intestines. The muted colors, predominantly browns and beiges, create a minimalist and clinical aesthetic. The use of carved wooden forms to represent internal organs suggests a focus on the visceral and organic aspects of the human body. The artist's intention may be to prompt contemplation on the fragility and complexity of the human form, or to challenge traditional perceptions of the body through an unconventional artistic medium. ...

Daniel Dewar & Grégory Gicquel
B.1976, French/British

Daniel Dewar & Grégory Gicquel are an artist-duo who create sculptures out of raw materials that bridge the gap between art history and craftsmanship, authentic spirit of amateurship and structural skill. Their works are figurative sculptures, carved out of stone or wood, that draw on classical sculpture and tradition, while presenting unforeseen imagery in the spirit of Pop and conceptual art. Dewar and Gicquel have been collaborating since the late 1990s and were winners of the Prix Marcel Duchamp award in 2012. Their works are unique in their unapologetic expression: snails crawl on a naked torso; multiplied toes, arms and muscles grow on the chests of drawers and tables; urinals are carved out of sophisticated stone. The versatility of Dewar and Gicquel’s practice includes performance which explores the repetitive, banal action, as well as creation of their own musical instruments as an accompaniment. With repetition being a relentless theme of their sculptural work, Dewar and Gicquel create an intimately familiar reality which has been absurdly metamorphosed into something new, something which is full of surprises and lightheartedness.
