Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

"Crusing (Red Bandana)" by Pierre Dumaire features a subtle yet striking palette centering on a vivid red bandana against the subtle tones of exposed skin and grey background. Highlighting the lower torso adorned with the bandana, the composition emphasizes texture and the symbolic role of attire within identity expression. The piece is rendered with a soft-focus technique reminiscent of photographic realism. Dumaire's work explores themes of homosexual culture through visual language, employing fashion and body language to bridge personal and communal narratives, reflecting on desire and recognition. ...

Pierre Dumaire
Artist
Pierre Dumaire
B.1993, French

Pierre Dumaire studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna as well as at the Duperré School in Paris, and he graduated in 2025 from the studio of Eva Nielsen and Mireille Blanc at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Pierre Dumaire’s work is grounded in the exchange of signs and the development of a visual language specific to homosexual culture, which he explores through scenes on silk and paper in which gazes, dress codes, bandanas, printed patterns, and gestures revealing the body appear. In large-scale works, this circulation of desire—oscillating between disclosure and frontality—echoes the strategies of advertising, while playing with systems of recognition and the transfer of values specific to this community. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Ancien Évêché in Toulon (2022 and 2023) and at Village Reille in Paris (2021). He was in residence in 2022 at Villa Noailles to prepare the exhibition Objets Modernes, and in 2016, for one year, in the tapestry workshop of the Manufacture des Gobelins. He also published a monographic edition, “Corps, souviens-toi”, with Maëlle Brientini (2021). He has also taken part in several group exhibitions, including at Galerie Marcelle Alix in Paris (2025), Galerie 22,48m² in Romainville (2025), the Centre Pompidou-Metz (2025) by invitation of Elizabeth Peyton, Galerie John Ferrère (2023), Galerie ODA in Paris (2022), Villa Noailles in Hyères (2022 and 2020), and Couvent Levat in Marseille (2019). In 2025, he will also take part in the 23rd International Printmaking Biennale in Sarcelles (95) and will present his first solo exhibition at DS Galerie in 2026. ...
