Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This vibrant contemporary woven wall hanging features a striking visual composition. The work predominantly utilizes earthy tones of beige and brown, with pops of vivid orange, red, and gray. The overall design incorporates a mix of abstract shapes, lines, and textured elements, creating a sense of movement and dynamism. The central focus is a large, red, fringed element that resembles an abstracted mushroom or umbrella form. Surrounding this are various geometric and organic shapes, some with a dotted or speckled pattern, suggesting a cosmic or celestial theme. The artist has employed a range of techniques, including weaving, embroidery, and applique, to achieve the intricate, multilayered surface. This piece appears to draw inspiration from indigenous textile traditions, while also incorporating a contemporary, imaginative approach. The layered, symbolic imagery and the tactile, handcrafted quality suggest the artist's intention to explore themes of nature, spirituality, and the human experience. ...

Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien
B.1990, French

Born in 1990 to an Ivorian father and a Guadeloupean mother, Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien grew up between Abidjan and Paris. She lives and works in Paris. Trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Cergy, Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien has developed an ambitious, sensitive and polymorphous personal practice. Creator of new forms, explorer of materials and signs, Marie-Claire Messouma Manlanbien defines herself as a storyteller of poems. Like labyrinths or rebus, her works compose new topographies around the themes of femininity, identity and the body, at the crossroads of her Caribbean and West African heritage. The artist’s works, on the border of sculpture, weaving and installation, offer us the possibility of navigating the meanders of their poetic narratives, of losing the landmarks that have been bequeathed to us in order to perhaps better redraw a path of life that is our own. ...
