Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

The artwork features an abstract sculptural composition primarily composed of earthy, mottled tones of gray and black. The irregular, jagged forms seemingly erupt upwards, creating a dynamic and kinetic energy. The textural quality of the sculpture, with its rough and pitted surface, suggests an organic, almost geological aesthetic. The overall impression is one of raw power and natural forces in tension. The artist's intention may have been to capture the rawness and primal essence of the natural world through this bold and expressive sculptural work. ...

Artist
Tiago Mestre
B.1978, Portuguese

Drawing on his status as a Portuguese artist living in Brazil, as well as his architecture training, Tiago Mestre creates works that address the notion of displacement, in both abstract and physical senses. While working in sculpture, painting, video and installation, Mestre considers his works to really ‘happen’ when exhibited together. The interaction between the individual pieces, the spaces they occupy, as well as their intervention with pre-existing space of the exhibition, forms the discourse that is at the core of Mestre’s practice. The abstract paintings and sets of sculptures are characterised by quiet considerations of colour and form ruled by an overarching sense of uncertainty. Conceptualised by human and artistic movement between Portugal and Brazil, his works engage with the plurality of anthropological and cultural codes that shape history and identity. The artist’s architectural background drives his interest in the spatial relationship between the human and the natural, with the former continuously assimilating the latter. ...
