Marijke Vasey
Belgian/French

Marijke Vasey is an Anglo-Belgian artist who lives and works in Saône-et-Loire (FR). She is a graduate of Goldsmiths College, London (2019). Marijke Vasey examines the relationship between painting and decoration, whether it be opulent 18th century symbolism or current, digital, floating imagery. The artist proposes a new look at the status of decorative embellishment, focusing on the role of the frame in the context of painting. As such, painted frames act as disruptive agents, encroaching from the edges of the canvas on the near-monochromic purity of the ‘Turneresque’ tinted surfaces they surround. Marijke Vasey’s work has already been exhibited in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and France. She has been selected for FBA Futures (2020) and Jeune Création at the Fiminco Foundation in Romainville (2021). Recently 19 Crac, the art centre in Montbéliard, devoted a solo show to her entitled “Rococo Disco” (2022). In 2024, Marijke Vasey presented her first solo exhibition at DS Galerie "L'automne était printemps hier". ...
