Aline Bouvy

Artist Aline Bouvy’s interdisciplinary practice examines the intricacies of our society and its values, scrutinizing and unraveling our notions of normativity. Her work draws from the subconscious ways in which we are civilized into moral and aesthetic acceptability, and the way that desire is moderated and controlled. Rather than placing herself on the edges of societal appropriateness, she brings forth the thoughts and visuals that are perceived as taboo, dirty, and immoral. She does not wish to be categorized and limited. While her work is not intended to provoke, she sees value in highlighting the thoughts and desires, the elements of our natures which are excluded from the bounds of performative politeness. There is a freedom to her work, encouraging us to accept the inherent crudeness that is part of being alive.
