Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This artwork features a striking, oversized eye-shaped form made of a yellow-toned material, likely metal or wood. The eye is surrounded by intricate rays or lashes that extend outward, creating a sun-like or celestial appearance. Dangling from the eye and lashes are an array of delicate, transparent crystals and beads that seem to represent tears or raindrops, adding a sense of movement and fragility to the piece. The minimalist gray background allows the eye-like motif to take center stage, highlighting the artist's focus on symbolism and the interplay of form, light, and materiality. This contemporary sculpture likely explores themes of vision, emotion, and the mystical or spiritual aspects of the human experience. ...

Fátima Rodrigo’s work has evolved towards mixed media and interactive installations exploring the representation of Latin American modernism and gender identity through different devices such as architecture, modern art and pop culture. She is particularly interested in problematizing the structures of power that in a post-colonial context continue to organize the world in hierarchical binaries, veiling the fluid relations between colonizers and colonized that compose what we understand as “modern.” Her work has focused on understanding how modernity—understood broadly as an aesthetic, a moment in history, and an aspiration that becomes embodied in landscapes and human bodies— not only coexists with, but enables violence against vulnerable populations, including women and non-gender normative people. Her investigation raises questions regarding the ways in which these representations influence our desires and interactions based on repeated behaviors over time, shaping conventions that eventually become a sort of canon. ...
