Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This sculptural artwork features a striking, organic form made of dark, textured materials. The composition consists of three interconnected shells or pods with intricate patterns and ridges, resembling the shape of a bat or bird in flight. The overall effect is one of dynamic movement and a sense of mysterious, natural beauty. The artist's skillful use of materials and attention to detail create a captivating, sculptural piece that invites close inspection and contemplation. In Wang's practice, everything is interwoven and meaningful. It is rooted in ways of engaging with her identity. Much of this centres on her and her family's diasporic migration from Taiwan to the US. As well as drawing inspiration from ancient Chinese and East Asian myths and folklore, Wang's practice explores her relationship with the women in her life, particularly her matrilineal heritage. Her drawings illustrate figures surrounded by mystical objects and creatures in sumptuous settings, while her animal sculptures are representative of her analysis of folklore, morphology, shape-shifting, symbolism and metaphor - each with its own specific references and histories. ...

Brussels

Ballon Rouge began as a nomadic gallery in September of 2017. In our first two years we put up exhibitions in Istanbul, London, Los Angeles, Brussels, Sao Paulo, Paris, and New York. Each of the cities we visited was stewarded by a ‘collective member’ - a curator who introduced us to artists and to their respective city’s art scene. In March of 2019 we made Brussels our home city, inaugurating our permanent space. While we will continue to do shows abroad alongside our collective members, our primary location is now Brussels. Besides our own exhibitions, the space in Brussels sometimes hosts invited international galleries to show with us in exchange for a show of ours at theirs - a further continuation of our ethos of collaboration and collectivity. So far we have collaborated or will soon collaborate with Hannah Barry Gallery (London); Melange (Cologne); Galerist (Istanbul); Gallery Artbeat, (Tbilisi); the Pill (Istanbul); Pi Artworks (Istanbul, London); Vitrine (London, Basel). ...
