Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

The artwork features a detailed pencil drawing of a serene underwater scene. The composition is dominated by a cluster of smooth, round pebbles in various shades of gray, creating a textured and visually appealing background. Prominently depicted in the center is a graceful koi fish, its intricate scales and fins meticulously rendered. The inclusion of smaller, delicate flower-like elements adds a sense of tranquility and natural harmony to the overall scene. The artist's skilled use of hatching and cross-hatching techniques gives the drawing a sense of depth and volume, suggesting a contemplative exploration of the natural world. ...

In Wang's practice, everything is interwoven and meaningful. It is rooted in ways of engaging with her identity. Much of this centres on her and her family's diasporic migration from Taiwan to the US. As well as drawing inspiration from ancient Chinese and East Asian myths and folklore, Wang's practice explores her relationship with the women in her life, particularly her matrilineal heritage. Her drawings illustrate figures surrounded by mystical objects and creatures in sumptuous settings, while her animal sculptures are representative of her analysis of folklore, morphology, shape-shifting, symbolism and metaphor - each with its own specific references and histories. ...

Brussels

Ballon Rouge began as a nomadic gallery in September of 2017. In our first two years we put up exhibitions in Istanbul, London, Los Angeles, Brussels, Sao Paulo, Paris, and New York. Each of the cities we visited was stewarded by a ‘collective member’ - a curator who introduced us to artists and to their respective city’s art scene. In March of 2019 we made Brussels our home city, inaugurating our permanent space. While we will continue to do shows abroad alongside our collective members, our primary location is now Brussels. Besides our own exhibitions, the space in Brussels sometimes hosts invited international galleries to show with us in exchange for a show of ours at theirs - a further continuation of our ethos of collaboration and collectivity. So far we have collaborated or will soon collaborate with Hannah Barry Gallery (London); Melange (Cologne); Galerist (Istanbul); Gallery Artbeat, (Tbilisi); the Pill (Istanbul); Pi Artworks (Istanbul, London); Vitrine (London, Basel). ...
