Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

The artwork depicts a striking abstract composition of stark contrasts between black and white. The prominent features are bold, dripping brushstrokes that create a sense of movement and fluidity across the canvas. The overall effect is one of spontaneity and expressive gesture, showcasing the artist's distinct style of painting. This piece likely reflects the artist's intention to challenge traditional notions of representation and explore the emotive power of pure abstraction. ...

Phumzile Khanyile
, South African

Phumzile Khanyile is an award-winning South African photographer and activist. Khanyile's practice focuses on her own interiority, women's lives and sexual politics. Her work consists of self-portraits with a candid, instant aesthetic and, more recently, photographic negatives accompanied by hand-drawn images and symbols. To this day, violence and childhood trauma continue to fuel her creativity. According to the photographer, looking back allows her to move forward; "many of the clues to who I really am lie somewhere in the past", which she tries to evoke through her photography. ...

Cape Town

Based in a 360 sqm gallery in Woodstock, Cape Town, blank was founded by Jonathan Garnham as a project space in 2005 and transitioned into a commercial gallery during 2012. The gallery represents emerging and increasingly established artists from the region in a critically engaged programme that emphasises contemporaneity, with a focus on concept and abstraction in the African context. With an exhibition programme that has a reputation for shaping the discourse around contemporary art in South(ern) Africa, and participation in prominent local and international art fairs, we seek to place our artists' work in a wide range of private and institutional collections. In addition, blank continues to promote the visual arts in our community through ongoing projects that support the sector. ...
