Selina Traun
Selina Traun originally studied Fashion in Vienna, focusing on textile design. After graduating, she worked on several artistic projects, founding her own fashion labels (Megatscheli and Silba Taska), as well as working as a curator of contemporary art at Galerie Otik and Blue Sky. Alongside these roles, Traun began to push her designs off of mannequins and into three-dimensional space, shifting into a sculptural arena. In 2019 she was commissioned to create, Pneu, a massive inflatable PVC temple, which formed a reflective space and stage for performances throughout Art Berlin. Soundscapes, gatherings and drag shows took place within its inflated walls. Pneu has since travelled to multiple festivals and geographies, being inflated at The Basel Social Club for Art Basel 2023. Traun continues to make these playful, larger than life sculptures which rekindle a sense of infancy in audiences. The puckish sensibility and sheer scale of these works is reminiscent of the architectural interventions of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, even if fabrics have been swapped out for PVC. ...
